A small thing done in a big way certainly can be wonderful. That would be the best way I know how to describe our 2012 SONM State Equestrian Competition that took place a couple of weeks ago in Clovis. Less than 50 riders, a couple hundred of the nicest volunteers you could ever hope for, meals that resembled family style dinners, an emotional and personal Opening Ceremony, a fun-filled concert by the “Almost Andrews Sisters,” a Coaches Competition (on horseback no less), a photo booth and a 1950’s Dance, and – a sense that if the whole world acted the way everyone acted that weekend in Clovis – there really could be a heaven on earth.
I think sometimes we get caught up in “big is better.” Not that big is necessarily a bad thing, but it isn’t always the best thing. Smaller has its own unique qualities and personality. Smaller allows for less stress and slower pace. Smaller sent me home thinking of ways and places I could make smaller happen in my own life. Where might it happen in yours?
